Five Workplace Rules That Are Not at All Progressive and Worker Friendly

We all agree all workplace needs rules. However, we also agree, most of them seem frustrating, but they are worth having. Then some rules should not exist at all. Most workplace rules are well-intentioned and are the epitome of professionalism.
It focuses on increasing the individual responsibility necessary to keep things running systematically. Some rules help preserve an atmosphere of productivity and a common goal. They encourage the right norm of working.
But all rules are not made equal, and some of the worst rules are the ones that are thought to be temporary fixes and do not solve the problem. A badly implemented rule can create problems for people and lead to disgruntled workers who aren’t happy with the work atmosphere and impact the organization’s atmosphere. Here’s hoping the bad rules are done away with and encourage a working place where everything is work -conducive and smooth.
Rigid Dress Code
Some organizations follow strict dress codes, and there isn’t any scope of sneaking in a Friday Dress Code. As per a study by Robert Half Finance & Accounting, at least one-quarter of organizations ask their employees to come to work in a formal dress code.
Four percent of organizations also make employees put on a suit and tie, and just 21 percent of workers ask their workers to put on slacks or skirts complete with button-down shirts.
However, more and more organizations are doing away with their dress codes. Nevertheless, many organizations believe that an employee can only be productive with formal shirts and trousers with a tie in tow when some people are at their productive best in their sweatpants. While others love to dress up formally and show up for work. We mean to say that people must have a personal choice and what they wear shouldn’t be the employer’s call. Enforcing a dress code will make people, they are back to school.
Banning Remote Work
Technology is a big influence today. Technology makes work more mobile and flexible, boosting productivity in the process. It also makes remote work flexible and makes the employer instill trust in the people they employ.
It makes the best out of employees. However, some companies still stick to the 9-5 shift, refusing to give remote work the importance it deserves. In some cases, remote work may not be possible, especially when the Sales team has to stay put at the office to take calls during working hours.
In other cases, the rule is there to drive away talented people who are great at their work yet do not deserve the opportunity.
Restricting Internet Usage
Although we understand that employees checking malicious or inappropriate websites are a cause for concern for employers. It can cause unwanted trouble and create problems in network security. But overt restriction and monitoring of employees’ internet issues can mean you do not have enough faith in your employee.
Instead of instilling a repressive environment for workers, you should infuse a more positive work environment. It may also inhibit the worker’s ability to do the job properly. It is important to talk to your employees and ask them to sign a document to know exactly when they are overdoing the internet usage bit.
Performance Review Policy
Employers sometimes track the performance of employees and inform the Human Resource about the practices, compensation, and more. The right kind of performance evaluation is highly beneficial for both the employee and the employer. However, performance evaluations can affect the way an employee works. Performance reviews are a way to set goals and should be instrumental in the employee’s growth.
Conclusion
Some of these less-than-perfect workplace rules impact the way people work. They create a regressive work environment, jumping the gun that each employee may take advantage of their workplace.
A toxic culture can only breed distrust and disrespect. And all you need to do is adopt straightforward pro-employee management rules and regulations to treat employees as individuals. It isn’t very difficult you see. Also, if you treat your employees as individuals, they will also provide their work with respect and dedication. And with that, you would notice an increase in workplace morale, ethics, and productivity. In the long run, you would also notice an increase in profits. Thus, it will be a win-win for everyone!
